Taunton man sentenced in string of store robberies

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Taunton man who committed back-to-back robberies in November 2022 has been sentenced to state prison.

Devante Fisher, 31, will serve six to nine years in state prison after pleading guilty last Thursday to charges of armed robbery and unarmed robbery.

Fisher walked into a Sunoco Gas Station in Taunton on November 12, 2022 brandishing a screwdriver and aggressively pointing it at the clerk.

Fisher demanded she open the cash register, took $180 and fled.

Two days later, Fisher walked into Girlie Variety Store in Taunton, walked behind the counter and demanded the clerk open the cash register.

He fled the scene with $2,550.

He was captured on surveillance video during both robberies, and was arrested by Taunton police the day after the second robbery.

Fisher had served a four to six year sentence after being convicted in 2015 of armed robbery and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
