Taunton quarry blasting restarts after possible debris found in nearby yards

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Taunton Fire Department received resident complaints that possible quarry blasting debris was landing in neighboring yards on Fremont Street.

The complaint was made on April 29, and the State Fire Marshal office’s was notified and opened an investigation, shutting down blasting for a week.

Preliminary information suggested that the incident was caused by a mistimed detonation.

There were no reports of property damage or injury.

Maine Drilling and Blasting were determined to have the appropriate permits for the blasting and had been operating at the site for decades.

The fire department will continue to monitor the blasting operations.

Maine Drilling and Blasting’s permit was re-issued on May 6.
