Diagnosed with leukemia, the son of a
9–year–old Grayson Lautieri is currently undergoing chemotherapy. His dad’s brothers and sisters in the department are rallying to help him though the difficult time.
The firefighters call themselves team Grayson. They are planning a blood drive and marrow registration this Tuesday.
Grayson’s dad, Nick, is usually the one responding in times of need. But this time his family needs the community to answer the call.
“One of the first treatments that Grayson, nick’s son received, was a donation of platelets and it made him feel so much better. He was pretty sick and as soon as he received that donation it helped him out. And it’s also important because Grayson see’s a lot of other sick kids while he’s being treated and he’s concerned about them as well,” said Chief Mike O’Brien.
The firefighters look to Grayson for inspiration. A gold ribbon, representing childhood cancer, is attached to each engine and ladder.
