Temps hit record high in Providence

Temperatures hit 70 degrees in Providence on Wednesday, breaking the previous record of 66 degrees.

The abnormal March heat had many across the region spending some time outside.

ABC 6 News caught up with several people at the town beach in North Kingstown.

"The waters still pretty cold, but the sun is still really strong, it’s not that cold at all. It’s really great,” said Gina Lemay.

"We are spending our day walking on the beach and finding sea glass, finding seashells and swinging,” said Emily Conde.

In Newport, temperatures were still chilly, but we saw people bundling up and hitting the beach.

"I’m retired so I’m enjoying the weather more probably than other people,” said John Stegelmann.

"We’re going on the cliff walk before all the crowds come to Newport,” said Patricia Stegelmann.

Shorts and t-shirts were not hard to spot in Downtown Providence. Many people on Federal Hill took the opportunity to have some lunch outside.

"It’s wonderful I actually just got back from California for Spring break and it’s warmer here than it was there,” said Gracie Putnam.

"It’s absolutely gorgeous. You got to come out and get what you can from it. We’re out here walking the dog it is beautiful,” said Hunter Boesch.
