Temps rise, records fall: Providence tops record-high temperature set in 1980, could still hit triple digits
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — As we look toward to possibility of tying or setting a fifty-year record for temperatures in Providence,
we’re welcoming Meteorologist Tyler Hughes to our team.
Tyler has joined the ABC6 team in Providence by way of Pennsylvania.
During today’s dangerous heat, there are dozens of cooling centers set up all across the area.
Crossroads Rhode Island and the Providence Rescue Mission are open 24/7.
Providence residents can also cool off inside their local library.

In New Bedford, you can cool down at any of the cities libraries.
Also if you want to cool off in the water, lifeguard hours at East and West Beaches are extended until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Taunton’s library on Pleasant Street is open as a cooling center until eight.
Fall River has announced that the lobby of Government Center will be utilized as a cooling center.
It will open in this capacity Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.
