The Breakers Mansion in Newport opens third floor to public tours
NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Breakers Mansion in Newport has officially opened the third floor to the public.
The Preservation Society of Newport began giving tours of the space for the very first time on Monday.
Preservation in Progress Tour will cost $25 for non-member adults, $20 for Preservation Society member adults and $10 for children ages 6 to 12, according to officials.
According to their website, The Breakers Third Floor Preservation in Progress Tour is a limited, guide-led experience of private bedrooms, bathrooms and recreational spaces used by the Vanderbilt family and household staff for more than a century.
Director of Museum Affairs and Chief Curator Leslie Jones told ABC 6 that visitors will get the ability to see preservation in progress quite literally in progress, as the Preservation Society learns more about the space and makes decisions about conservation applications.
“….and begin telling a new story about the Breakers and the Vanderbilt family,” she said.
