Third suspect arrested in Newport shooting

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A third person has been arrested after an alleged shooting that took place in Newport on July 5. 

According to a press release, after continuing their investigation, they attempted an arrest warrant for Marc Washington.

Detectives from both Portsmouth and Newport worked together and obtained a search warrant for a vehicle and a residence in Portsmouth connected to Washington.

On July 12, police located Washington operating his vehicle in which he fled from police.

He was located a short time later in Middletown.

Police said items related to the investigation were recovered.

Washington was charged by Portsmouth Police with fleeing a motor vehicle stop and possession of cocaine.

He was also charged by Newport Police with conspiracy, compounding or concealing a felony, assault with intent to commit specified felonies, possession of a firearms by certain persons prohibited and license or permit required for carrying a pistol.

Washington was already on probation for first degree robbery.

Two men have already been arrested and arraigned in connection with the shooting.

He will be arraigned this morning at Newport District Court.
