‘This is not the first time the house has been hit,’ says Fall River resident following crash
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A crash in Fall River Sunday night sent a minivan into the side of a home and put two teenagers to the hospital.
Michael Almeida has lived in his home at the corner of Robeson and Maple streets for the last 13 years and said Sunday’s wreck wasn’t the first time a car has crashed into his house.
“This is not the first time the house has been hit. This is actually the second time the house has been hit, but a car has gone through the fence three times since I’ve been here,” Almeida told ABC 6 News.
Almeida was in his kitchen when he felt the home shake then ran outside to find a car crashed into the side.
Residents worked to remove two teenagers from the car, and when one collapsed, Almeida said he jumped into action.
“I brought him down to the ground, checked him for a pulse and to see if he was breathing. He did have a pulse but it was faint. I was on the phone with 911 during the whole time, he was going in and out of consciousness so I was trying to keep him awake so he wouldn’t go out,” Almeida explained.
Both teenagers, ages 16 and 19, were taken to the hospital.
Almeida said he’s tried to bring the intersection up to the city but hasn’t gotten any response.
“I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve almost gotten hit. Someone’s going to get killed one of these days. Luckily these two are going to survive, but it seems like — what’s it going to take? Someone to die for the city to do something?” Almeida asked.
The condition of the two teenagers was not immediately released. Another driver involved in the crash denied medical treatment at the scene.
The 16-year-old driver was charged with failure to stop at a posted sign and driving without a license.
