YARMOUTH, Mass. (WLNE) — Thousands of people have gathered in Yarmouth to say their final goodbyes to Officer Sean Gannon, who was killed in the line of duty.
A massive procession of police officers wound its way through the streets of Yarmouth to honor him.
Members of the community lined the streets as the procession made its way to St. Pius Church, where a wake was held Tuesday night.
Gannon was an eight year veteran of Yarmouth P.D. Many of those he impacted–including local kids–came to pay their respects.
"These guys go out and they do their job every single day. You’ve got to support what they do, and when something like this happens you’ve got to pay your respects," said Christian Dotoczny of Dennis.
"I wanted to tell everybody about my feelings about officer Gannon, having his sacrifice for us//he did that sacrifice for the world because he wanted everybody to be safe," said Carter Shaw of Yarmouth.
Officer Gannon’s funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 AM at St. Pius Church, followed by a private burial.
