Thousands of racers participate in the Providence Marathon

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Thousands of runners participated in the Providence Marathon Sunday morning.

The race began in downtown Providence and finished next to the Rhode Island State House.

Thousands of racing fans were cheering on runners as the sun was out. A portion of the roads, including South Main Street, were closed off.

This race was also a qualifier for the Boston Marathon that occurs in April.
