Three Warwick officers to be honored for weekend water rescue
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Three Warwick police officers who jumped into action to rescue a driver submerged in Apponaug Cove Saturday night will be honored at the Warwick Police Department Wednesday afternoon.
Officers Matthew Maloney, Nicholas Manocchio and Maxwell Neiley arrived at the scene of the incident, swam 100 feet to the car and pulled 71-year-old Frank Davis to shore.
Davis’ vehicle swerved off of Arnold’s Neck Road and into the cove at approximately 7:17 p.m. Saturday night.
The three officers reached the vehicle but struggled to see inside due to the dark water, but were able to pull Davis from the car.
On-scene paramedics performed life-saving measures on Davis and he was transported to Kent County Memorial Hospital.
His condition is unknown at this time.
The press conference honoring the officers and their efforts will be held at 12:30 p.m.
