Senator Jack Reed’s office is now accepting requests for Rhode Islanders wishing to be part of the Pope’s visit to the U.S.

Pope Francis will be in Washington, D.C. addressing Congress on Thursday, September 24 at 10:00 am, which makes him the first pope to ever address a joint meeting of Congress.

There will be outdoor jumbotrons set up on the U.S. Capitol lawn and ticket-holders will have the chance to watch the Pope’s address via a live broadcast. He is then expected to make a brief appearance on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol.

Tickets are for outdoor standing room only. Ticket-holders must provide their own transportation and other trip expenses.

Rhode Islanders wishing to request a ticket may do so at: reed.senate.gov or by calling (401) 943-3100.  The deadline for requests is Thursday, September 10, at 6:00 p.m.  Those receiving tickets will be notified via e-mail and must pick them up in-person at Senator Reed’s office.  Tickets are non-transferable.

Washington, D.C. is the Pope’s first stop during his U.S. visit. He then travels to New York City and Philadelphia.
