‘Time Off to Vote Act’ proposed by Reed, Whitehouse

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WLNE) — With the U.S. presidential election coming up in November, Rhode Island Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse have joined several of their colleagues in introducing the “Time Off to Vote Act.”

This would ensure more residents are not financially penalized for taking time off from work to cast their ballot.

Upon the request of the employee, it would require employers to provide at least two hours of paid leave in order to vote in federal elections.

It would standardize voting leave during federal elections for all fifty states, rather than it varying from state to state.
