Tiverton officer accused of child abuse due in court

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A Tiverton police officer who is being accused of child abuse is set to appear in court today.
Jacob Rapoza was arrested back in August of 2023 for second-degree child abuse.
That same month, he was released on $3,000 bail and was issued a no-contact order with his own child that will run concurrent with family court proceedings.
Rapoza was fired from his position as a Tiverton school resource officer in December of 2022 after being accused of assault.
He is set for a disposition hearing at the 2nd District Court House in Newport.
