Tiverton PD stumping porch pirates; allowing residents to ship packages to police station
"We will would welcome any attempt by any pirate who wants to try and steal from our porch," Tiverton PD says.
Tiverton, RI (WLNE) – Worried about porch pirates taking your holiday package deliveries?
Tiverton Police are offering residents to send their holiday packages to the police department as a pick-up point. People can send high-value packages to the police department’s address and pick their packages up there.
Sgt. John LeDuc with department says porch pirate theft cases have been on the rise the past few years. In some single years, Tiverton PD investigating hundreds of porch pirate cases alone.
As for how it works, Tiverton Police wrote this on Facebook:
“Let the Tiverton Police Department put your nerves at ease! From now until December 24th you can ship your high value packages to the Tiverton Police Department, just put the package in your name and ship it to:
20 Industrial Way,
Tiverton, RI 02878.We will collect the package(s) for you and safely store them until you come into the station with proper identification to claim it.”
The post went on to joke, “Can’t claim it by the 24th? No worries all unclaimed packages are sure to find lovely homes with our officers…😂🤣😂…JUST KIDDING! All are welcome to pick up their unclaimed packages after Dec. 24th.”
The department says they plan to do this again in the upcoming years if residents utilize it.
