Today is the start of the Atlantic hurricane season
PROVIDENCE, R.I.(WLNE) —
What a difference a day can make to a forecast.
Today, we kick off the start of the Atlantic hurricane season with an area of interest in the Florida gulf (Invest 91L). Usually warm Atlantic temperatures could cancel out the El Nino pattern here in the Atlantic and make it a season of “uncertainty.” With warmer than average Caribbean and Atlantic waters, you can have more energy to fuel tropical storm development and that could cancel out the El Nino effect for us causing a season of “uncertainty”. These tropical patterns can play a big role in our weather here in New England by changing the steering pattern of our weather systems.
Today, the vibe is summer like feels. Expect our temps to warm up in the 80’s and upper 80’s further inland. Coastal area will be perfect with temps in mid-upper 70’s.
Tomorrow will be even warmer than today, but just like that a front moves through tomorrow night really crushing those vibes for the weekend.
Scattered showers and cooler temps arrive and on Saturday we will have our peak temperature of the day come early in the morning hours. After that, the temps dip, and then Sunday we start to warm up but our daytime high comes much later in the day/evening.
We will catch a lot of scattered showers over the weekend. Not a wash out, but the cape looks to get more rain than the rest of us. I think totals on Saturday will be somewhere between 0.20- 0.30 of an inch. Same for Sunday day. However, overnight we could pick up the most rain of .25-.40 and then moving out during our commute on Monday morning. Temperatures do start to rebound and we warm up as this system moves out.
