Torrential rain tonight will lead to river flooding through week’s end

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The rain is really coming down out there tonight. Downpours will last through around 3 a.m. before gradually tapering through Thursday morning.

A **FLOOD WATCH** is in effect through early tomorrow. In all, 2-3″ of rain are expected. Even as the weather improves later tomorrow, the lingering effect will be river flooding,

Warnings have been issued for the Pawtuxet, Pawcatuck and Wood Rivers in Rhode Island, and Taunton River in Mass. Rivers are expected to crest at some point on Friday.

If you live along the river banks, now is your time to act and move items in the most flood-prone areas to higher ground.

After a break Friday (mostly sunny) and Saturday (mostly cloudy) more rain will move through late Saturday night into Sunday. An additional inch is possible from this.

After a chilly and mostly cloudy Monday, increasing temperatures and sunshine is expected for Tuesday and Wednesday.
