Town of Easton approves project for new police, fire, public works facilities

EASTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Residents of Easton, Massachusetts took to the polls Saturday and voted to pass a project that will consolidate and replace outdated public works facilities.

Voters approved the debt exclusion only by 60 votes to pay for the bonds to construct a new police station, fire department and public works facility.

Town officials said the project will cost roughly $150M and create a public safety complex housing both Easton police and fire on Depot Street as well as a new public works complex with a new fire substation at Washington and Main Street.

In a post to social media, the town said it will regularly share updates with the public as officials move to the construction phase of the project.

The post further reads, “The town will work with our state legislators to file the special act for a fixed income senior citizen tax exemption program. We will provide updates as that works through the legislation process to adoption.”

Roughly 12 percent of the town’s voters took to the polls Saturday.
