Traffic pattern change comes to George Washington Highway bridge in Smithfield

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said that a lane shift will take place on the George Washington Highway Bridge Route 116 Friday night.

The bridge is located between Harris Road and West Reservoir Road and runs over Interstate 295.

RIDOT said there will be one lane of travel in each direction, shifted to the south side of the bridge so preservation work can continue on the northern side of the bridge.

The lane shift will be in place until the spring.
