Travis Kelce’s stolen watch may be tied to international crime ring

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Authorities said they are investigating recent burglaries at the homes of professional athletes, including Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Tight End Travis Kelce.

Police recovered a watch belonging to Kelce in Providence and said the case may be connected to an international crime ring.

Law Enforcement and Security Expert Todd McGhee said that the discovery was a “big deal.”

“This is going to help investigators start to put people and faces, not part of the actual robbery, but part of their overall process,” he said.

Police confirmed that $20,000  in cash was stolen from Kelce’s home just before kickoff against the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 7.

Then Mahomes’ house was hit hours later.

Police in four states said they are investigating whether the burglaries are the work of a South American crime ring.

“This is more than a robbery suspect that is looking for opportunity; this is a network of individuals that are conducting, apparently, some type of surveillance, they understand the scheduling, they are disguising themselves,” McGhee said.

Police in Kansas said they have no comment on the investigation at this time, and Providence police said they have no connection to the investigation.

The NFL and NBA also listed  a series of precautionary measures players can take to protect their property and possessions.
