PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – It was a wild scene around southern New England Tuesday, as the area was brushed by the windy eastern side of Tropical Storm Isaias.

Trees littered roadways, knocked down by the powerful winds.  Some of those trees blocked traffic, forcing drivers onto the wrong side of the road to get by.

Meanwhile on Hope Street in Providence, a tree crashed down right outside a house, a scene likely repeated all around the area.

Taibi Magar says, “I was in the kitchen making dinner, and I just hear a giant splitting.  I yelled at my husband to come down and he didn’t hear me, and then I heard a thud.”

The timing surprised her.  She says the skies were blue, and the winds had already been dying down.

Magar says, “The craziest part was it felt like the storm was over, and so I think everyone has been sort of walking around and then just certainly this could have killed someone.”

She’s also thankful that it missed her house.

Magar says, “Very lucky.  We just replaced our roof, approximately four weeks ago.”

It’s a good reminder that more trees and branches could still come down overnight, having been weakened by the storm.  If that happens, it could still knock out power, so be sure to charge your devices, and download the ABC6 News app so you can continue to receive updates.
