Trial begins for man charged with 2021 murder in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The trial begins today for a man facing murder charges in New Bedford.

Alfonso Richards was charged with the murder of Naurik Michel-Brown, 23, of New Bedford back in 2021.

The shooting happened on Ashley Boulevard in the middle of the day.

Richards then fled to Virginia where he was eventually captured.

Richards is due in Fall River Superior Court this morning for the start of his trial.

He remains in custody without bail.
