Trial begins for second man accused in fatal shooting of 24-year-old woman in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The trial for one of the two men accused of shooting and killing a 24-year-old women is set to begin today after a nearly year long delay.

Shawn Mann was charged with the killing of Miya Brophy-Baermann back in August of 2021.

He was the alleged accomplice of Isaiah Pinkerton, who was sentenced to two life sentences. 

According to prosecutors, Mann and Pinkerton killed the 24-year-old in a drive by shooting after they thought she standing with was a rival gang member outside the Roger Williams Green Building on Olney Street in Providence.

His trial is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. this morning in Providence Bristol County Superior Court.

Mann was not in court Tuesday. Potential jury members were given a questionnaire to fill out.
