Trooper injured in crash on Route 6 in Johnston

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A member of the Rhode Island State Police was involved in a motor vehicle crash early this morning.

According to officials, at around 12:38 a.m., the trooper was traveling eastbound on Route 6 in the Town of Johnston during a heavy rainstorm when he encountered a large puddle, causing his vehicle to hydroplane.

Officials said the vehicle exited the highway and struck the retention wires in the center median.

The trooper sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.
