Trump: Administration to give $2,000 to most Americans from ‘trillions’ in tariff revenue
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — President Donald Trump said Sunday that he plans to give $2,000 to Americans under a certain income bracket, with the president crediting tariff revenue in the delivery of the funds.
According to a Truth Social post from Trump, the president said, in part:
We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion…
A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone (.)
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told ABC News that he had not spoken to Trump about this plan.
Bessent said to Anchor George Stephanopoulos in the interview:
The $2,000 dividend could come in lots of forms, in lots of ways, George. You know, it could be just the tax decreases that we are seeing on the president’s agenda — you know, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security, deductibility of auto loans.
Stimulus checks were issued by Trump in March of 2020 in an effort to bolster the economy in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
