Turbine manufacturer says blade failure off Nantucket due to ‘manufacturing issue’
NANTUCKET, Mass. (WLNE) — The manufacturer of a blade that fell off a Vineyard Wind turbine said the failure was due to a “manufacturing issue.”
A spokesperson for GE Vernova, the Massachusetts-based company which manufactures the blades, said that all blades from the same factory as the failed one will be re-inspected.
The company added that early investigations show “no problems” with the design of the blades.
The blade failure caused fiberglass shards and other debris to float along the coast, closing beaches as well as Vineyard Wind itself.
A spokesperson for the wind farm said that it is helping with the clean-up.
