Two Burrillville Police Officers dragged a ‘short distance’ during traffic stop

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Burrillville Police Department said that two police officers were dragged a “short distance” when a suspect resisted arrest during a traffic stop on Feb. 16.

The department said that a sedan was stopped on Chapel Street around 10 p.m. after being observed speeding by an officer.

During the stop, the driver was found to have not registered the vehicle, insured the vehicle, or have a license to drive it.

Police said that during questioning the suspect became “combative” and attempted to get back into his car while it was being towed.

While officers tried to forcibly remove the suspect from the car, the suspect accelerated, dragging the officers a short distance and causing injuries.

On Feb. 17, the department, alongside Woonsocket police, executed a search warrant on the suspect’s home on Greene Street in Woonsocket.

During the search the sedan was seized.

The suspect, 29-year-old Tyler Perry, is still at large and the incident is still under investigation.
