State Police are investigating the cause of an accident that caused two vehicles to rollover and traffic to be backed up for miles.

The accident happened on Interstate-95 southbound just past exit 10 at around 8:00 a.m.

State Police say the two drivers were driving side by side when, for reasons yet to be determined, both cars lost control and swerved away from each other. One vehicle went over the median into the northbound side of I-95.

State Police say no contact was made between vehicles.

The drivers, both females, were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They were both wearing seatbelts.

Three lanes were shut down going southbound and the high speed lane was shut down northbound.

State Police say the roads were back open just before 9:30 a.m.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
