Two men are facing charges after a stabbing in Pawtucket that left one of them in critical condition.

Police say 21-year-old Jovantey Mendes accompanied his girlfriend to the home her ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Richard Vasquez, on Armistice Boulevard Tuesday night. The woman was dropping off a child that she and Vasquez have together.

Police say once the couple arrived, Vasquez ran out of the house and began punching Mendes. That’s when they say Mendes pulled out a knife and stabbed Vasquez repeatedly before the couple fled.

Police stopped the car a couple hours later and arrested Mendes on felony assault charges.

Vasquez suffered multiple stab wounds to his head and stomach and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition. He is charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, and violation of a no contact order.
