Two correctional officers exposed to fentanyl at ACI

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Two correctional officers from the special investigation unit at the Adult Correctional Institution (ACI) were exposed to fentanyl while on duty Friday afternoon.

The spokesperson for the Brotherhood of Correctional Officers, Rich Ferruccio told ABC6 News the two officers were investigating two bags of white powder found within two facilities around 1:00 p.m.

During their investigation, they were exposed to the white powder, which tested positive for fentanyl.

Both were transported to Rhode Island Hospital and administered narcan. They were released a short time later.

No further information is available at this time.
