Two hospitalized after overnight assault in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE)- An assault in Newport early Sunday morning lead to two people being taken to the hospital.

The Newport Police Department says that the incident happened at a home on Thames St at about 12:22 a.m.

Both parties involved were taken to the hospital, one is in critical condition, the other was released.

Police are withholding the names of those involved as well as any additional details.

The investigation remains ongoing.
