Two local Cranston businesses closing their doors
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Two local businesses just over three miles apart in Cranston are now closing their doors.
“It’s a legacy,” said Solitro’s Bakery employee Alexandra Gallucci. “It’s been around since my grandfather and his brother started it so it’s been nice to have it for generations.”
Solitro’s Bakery announced on social media Tuesday that the owner is retiring and their doors will be closing after nearly 75 years of business.
“We come here for holidays, like Easter, Christmas and for the Italian bread,” explained Cranston resident Lindsay Iadeluca. “I’m sad and that’s why I came in today I wanted to get as much as I can for the next couple of weeks.”
A few miles away sits Wein-O-Rama, who did officially announce they will be closing, but when ABC 6 News crews stopped by Tuesday, there was a ‘closed’ sign in the window.
Many people pulled up wanting food and left confused.
A real estate agent showed the property of Wein-O-Rama is up for sale online.
The Cranston staple has been in business for 62 years.
“It’s tough to find work nowadays. Restaurants are really hard to come by people that will take a job and show up. Sadly, I think that is part of the evolution of society and post-COVID,” said Iadeluca.
Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins said in a statement, “It is certainly sad to see these storied dining establishments announcing the closure of their doors, but we understand the owners have each announced they are looking forward to retirement.”
“I think it’s been an honor to serve the people. It’s been nice to see families over the years. It’s bittersweet,” said Gallucci.
Solitro’s Bakery’s last official day is Sunday, Aug. 18.
