Two motorcyclists hospitalized, third arrested for eluding police after Bristol crash
BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) — Two motorcyclists were injured and a third was arrested after a crash in Bristol late Monday night.
The Bristol Police Department said 24-year-old Jacob Mazza fled from officers after a crash at the intersection of Metacom Avenue and Annawamscutt Avenue.
Police said officers responded to reports of a crash involving motorcycles around 10:40 p.m. and determined that two bikes were involved in what authorities believe was a road rage incident.
Both drivers were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries, according to officials, who said their condition is unknown at this time.
While police were conducting their investigation, authorities said Mazza, who officials believe was tied to the initial crash, drove his motorcycle through the accident scene.
Officials said Mazza ignored officers’ commands and sped down Metacom Avenue before losing control and crashing a short distance away.
Police said Mazza was treated for minor injuries at Rhode Island Hospital and later arraigned by a bail commissioner.
Authorities said he faces the following charges:
- DUI of liquor or drugs
- Refusal to submit to a chemical test
- Eluding law enforcement at high speed
- Obstructing officer in execution of duty
Mazza was released and is set to appear in district court on July 12.
