Two Rhode Island men killed while crossing the street in Maine

OXFORD, Maine. (WLNE) – Two Rhode Island men were killed in Oxford, Maine, Tuesday night while crossing the road.
Daniel Mercardo, 31, of Providence, and Ronald Nobrega, 55, of Greenville, were crossing Route 26 from a Casino to a Hampton Hotel at approximately 10:30 p.m. when they were struck.
Christine Kimball, 70, of Hampstead, New Hampshire, struck the men after they attempted to cross the road in between two vehicles.
Kimball did not see the men until it was too late to stop.
Both Mercardo and Nobrega died at the scene.
In a press release from police, the area is described as a 50 MPH zone with poor lighting, no crosswalk, and no pedestrian crossing signs.
