Two Rhode Island ponds to receive weed treatments next week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said that Meshanticut Pond in Cranston and Silver Spring Lake in North Kingstown will receive treatments to control infestations of invasive aquatic weeds starting Tuesday.
RIDEM said that the treatment is to target sacred lotus, variable water milfoil, and fanwort and will not harm fish or other aquatic species.
Signs will be posted about temporary restrictions during the treatment.
Boaters should avoid using the pond on treatment day and pets should not drink from the water for at least three days.
More information on DEM programs and other initiatives can be found on the department’s website.
