CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston police say two senior citizens were hospitalized with severe injuries after being struck by a car.

Police were sent to the intersection of Park Ave. and Sunset Terrace at 6:42PM Monday on reports of a vehicle crash which struck two pedestrians.

The driver of the vehicle turned onto Sunset Terrace while the elderly couple was walking across the street, where they were then struck at a low speed, according to the Cranston Police Department Chief Michael J. Winquist.

Both pedestrians were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, and the driver remained at the scene of the crash.

The motorist told police they did not see the couple, and is cooperating with investigators from the Traffic Unit.

ABC 6 News crews at the scene saw a single vehicle being towed away, crime scene tape, and police cruisers blocking the road.
