Two teens injured in shooting at Providence vigil

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Two teens were shot in Providence on Monday evening.

Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said an 18-year-old woman and a 14-year-old juvenile were being treated for gunshot wounds.

Perez said officers responded to Julian Street around 7:00 p.m. for a report of a shooting and found a 14-year-old juvenile with a gunshot wound to the foot.

Police were then notified of a second shooting victim, an 18-year-old, who had been taken to the fire station on Washington Street.

The woman was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with two gunshot wounds to her body.

Perez said the female victim was alert and conscious and added that the case is very active.

Officers on-scene told ABC 6 News that a vigil was taking place at the time of the shooting for a person that was stabbed and killed seven years ago at the same location.

Providence City Councilor Miguel Sanchez said Monday night that both victims were in stable condition.

This is a developing story — ABC 6 will provide updates as additional information is released.
