Two volleyball coaches fired from East Greenwich schools over sexual harassment investigation

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — Allegations of sexual harassment against an assistant volleyball coach with the East Greenwich school district has led to the termination of the head and assistant coaches.
The allegations were brought to Superintendent Alexis Meyer in November 2021 after the season ended.
According to a letter sent to members of the community, “serious concerns about the assistant coach’s interactions with the players were brought to the Superintendent.”
An investigation immediately began with the assistant coach being banned from the school grounds and informed to not have any contact with players from the district.
An outside investigator conducted a two-month investigation. After interviewing current and former athletes, parents, coaches, administrators, and staff, it was determined that the assistant coach violated Title IX and sexual harassed underage students.
The assistant and head coach have been banned from working for the district.
The superintendent filed all findings with the Rhode Island Department of Education, Rhode Island Interscholastic League, Volleyball USA, and DCYF. DCYF is also conducting their own investigation.
The names of the two coaches have not been released at this time.
