Two Woonsocket elementary school students charged for alleged airgun possession at school

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Two Woonsocket elementary school students have been charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds after they were allegedly observed handling a weapon at Globe Park Elementary School Wednesday.

According to Woonsocket Police Department Chief Thomas Oates III, school staff who observed the alleged incident immediately contacted the Woonsocket PD Juvenile Bureau who arrived and observed the weapon to be an airgun.

This airgun was unloaded and had the ability to fire several different types of projectiles.

This classified the weapon as a firearm, according to Chief Oates.

Parents took custody of the students and the case has been referred to Family Court.
