UMass Lowell classes resume as police continue search for man with gun
LOWELL, Mass. (WLNE) — Classes resume today after a scare at UMass Lowell.
A shelter in place order was in effect after an armed man was seen carrying a gun on the campus.
The shelter in place order was lifted Wednesday night several hours after the initial report was made and police did a thorough search.
Some students barricaded themselves in class when they received the alert from the university.
“We had probably five different ways of closing that door. We had a laptop block,” said UML student Harlem.
There was four tables and music stand in the hinge of the door. We had belts on it. Um, one way or another, that door was gonna stay closed.”
According to police, the suspect was no longer on campus, but police are still actively working to find him this morning.
The suspect is described as a man wearing a gray or white sweatshirt and black shorts, carrying a long weapon.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
