United States Attorney’s Office warns Rhode Islanders of subpoena scam calls

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The United States District Court and the United States Attorney’s Office are warning Rhode Islanders of scam calls from individuals claiming to be law enforcement.

The calls involve scammers calling victims and attempting to get personal information or a fee for “failure to respond to a subpoena.”

Scammers may ask for Social Security Numbers or dates of birth, and may use the name of actual district court judges in the state.

Both the court and office said that recipients should not provide not provide personal or financial information to the callers and that all court orders are sent by mail.

Anyone who receives a call should hang up and call the United States District Court at 401-752-7200.
