Unsettled weather today; Gorgeous this weekend
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Let’s talk about what we can expect through the day here. We have some scattered, spot showers that could pop up today, but the heaviest will move through after 5pm.
We have moisture surging up from the south and that moisture will increase through the day.
As the moisture pulls in ahead of this surface low, and with a front moving through the combination of these factors means we have lift in the atmosphere to support thunderstorm development. We have enough available energy as well…
But…
We have a strong southerly wind and some dry air in the atmosphere and that works to cap off the development and eat up the moisture as it gets to Rhode Island. The think is, the surface low looks to stay to the north of us, and the front doesn’t actually make it through our area until tomorrow morning.
With that being said…
The heaviest storms will stretch from Boston down the 95, but they seem to lose their “ump” (energy) as they head into Rhode Island.
They look to become more scattered for us heading into the evening hours, but if you are going to Boston for the Red Sox game or heading north I think the severity will be worse.
Once the front moves through, our Saturday and Sunday will be pretty nice for us.
