UPDATE: 20 puppies, 7 dogs seized from home in Hopkinton

HOPKINTON, R.I. (WLNE) — This morning, the Rhode Island SPCA responded to a Hopkinton home for alleged poor conditions of a home that was holding over a dozen dogs.

The Hopkinton Police Department received a complaint from a person who bought a puppy from a resident in Hopkinton.

The complaint stated that they responded to an ad for golden retriever puppies for sale, and responded to 126 Alton Bradford Road in Hopkinton and purchased one of the puppies.

Upon a visit to a vet, there were concerns about the puppy’s age and the vaccines given to the puppy by the seller.

There were also complaints about the home in which the puppies were being kept.

The Hopkinton Police Department, Hopkinton Animal Control and the RISPCA responded to the Alton Bradford Road address.

Several adult dogs were found outside penned up inside kennels and an overwhelming odor was detected as investigators approached the residence.

The homeowner, Peter A Reynolds, 64, was contacted and asked to respond to the home immediately.

Reynolds arrived and let the investigators into the house where they found a large crate kennel with 20 puppies inside the home.

The team seized a total of 20 puppies and 6 adult dogs.

The conditions of the home were found to be so deplorable that the officers had to wear protective gear to enter.

The dogs and puppies were removed and transported to the RISPCA where they will be health checked and placed up for adoption.

Reynolds is cooperating with the investigation and no arrests have been made.

A notice of condemnation of the property was issued and will stay in place until the property is cleaned up.
