COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — The suspect in a September 6 police pursuit who allegedly crashed a pickup truck into another vehicle before fleeing on foot has surrendered to Coventry police.

According to Coventry Police Department Captain Ryan DeSisto, David Anthony, 23, turned himself in to Coventry police headquarters Monday morning at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Anthony has been charged with duty to stop in an accident resulting in personal injury, reckless driving/eluding law enforcement (second offense), driving after denial/suspension/revocation for certain violations and obstructing an officer in execution of duty.

According to Coventry police, the September 6 incident began when officers tried to pull over a pickup truck towing a trailer on Route 117 westbound.

The vehicle then accelerated and collided with another vehicle also traveling west, according to police.

The driver exited the truck and allegedly fled on foot, and occupants inside the second vehicle had to be extricated by first responders.

The occupants were transported to Rhode Island Hospital and later released.

A felony arrest warrant for Anthony was later issued.

Anthony was arraigned at 3rd District Court Monday, and was then presented as a Superior Court violator, according to Captain DeSisto.

He was ordered held at the ACI with his next court appearance slated for September 22.
