UPDATE: Crews contain Providence scrap yard fire
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — An overnight scrap yard fire remains under investigation in Providence, and crews are leaving the scene nine hours after arriving.
The Providence fire department was called to a code red last night just after 11:30 p.m. for a report of a large pile of metal burning in the scrap yard on Allen Avenue.
“We’ve got about 40-45 firefighters down here, we’re making good progress,” said Providence Fire Chief Derek Silva.
No injuries have been reported.
Crews remain on scene checking on hot spots and investigating the cause of the fire.
