CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston police say the driver who struck two senior citizens crossing the street will be cited for a civil offense.

The 83-year-old woman will be issued for not yielding to pedestrians in the crosswalk, according to the Cranston Police Department Chief Michael J. Winquist.

Cranston police additionally sent a request to the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles to review her fitness to operate a motor vehicle.

Monday night, the driver turned onto Sunset Terrace while the elderly couple was walking across the street, where they were then struck at a low speed.

The motorist told police she did not see the couple.
