UPDATE: Fall River man facing charges after hitting two children in crosswalk

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – A man is being charged after two children were injured in a pedestrian crash in Fall River Monday morning.
Fall River Police responded to the intersection of County Street and Eastern Avenue to respond to a call that two children were struck by a vehicle on their way to school around 6:45 a.m.
According to Police, a driver ignored the crossing guard, failed to stop for the crosswalk, and struck two children who were crossing the street.
One victim, a 13-year-old girl, was transported to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Police said she was pinned under the bumper of the vehicle and suffered a broken femur.
The second victim, a 12-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries when her foot was run over trying to pull the first victim to safety. She was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The driver, Jose A. Montalvo, 45, of Fall River, was issued summons for 2nd District Court on the following charges:
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Failure to Stop for a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk
- Failure to Stop for a Stop Sign
