UPDATE: One man dead in head-on New Bedford/Fairhaven Bridge crash

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A motor vehicle crash that closed the New Bedford/Fairhaven Bridge Wednesday left a 41-year-old New Bedford man dead, according to Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
The crash occurred at approximately 11 a.m. Wednesday when New Bedford police and EMS personnel were dispatched to a call of a serious accident on the bridge.
Arriving police located a Chevy Silverado with moderate damage occupied by a 26-year-old man with minor injuries.
Its front end took the brunt of the damage and the vehicle came to a rest in the right lane facing east.
The second vehicle in the crash, a Mazda Miata, sustained catastrophic damage to the front end and was determined to have lost control and struck the Silverado head-on.
The driver of the Miata, Gregory Crook McGuire, was transported to Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford where he was pronounced deceased.
The incident remains under investigation at this time, and charges are not expected to be filed at this time.
