MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — Middleborough Fire Department personnel rescued one man from a house fire on Locust Street Monday night around 9:15 p.m.

Entering through a side entrance, personnel were able to locate the 67-year-old male resident and he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries including burns and smoke inhalation.

At 12:30 a.m., the bulk of the fire was extinguished, but crews remained on the scene through Tuesday morning to continue searching for and extinguishing hot spots.

Officials say one firefighter had to be treated for a minor ear laceration.

The fire does not appear to have been intentionally set at this time and the State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident.

The Lakeville, Bridgewater, Carver and Wareham Fire Departments assisted in battling the fire.
