UPDATE: Police determine Warwick school bus crash caused by operator error

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Warwick police announced Friday that operator error caused a school bus carrying seven students to crash into a wooded embankment on October 21.

According to Warwick police Major Joel Thomas, the school bus driver, Ralph Maiorano, 76, was not speeding or intoxicated at the time of the Quaker Road incident.

A mechanical inspection of the bus and review of interior video footage lent to the operator error conclusion.

Maiorano was properly licensed and actively employed by First Student at the time of the crash.

No one was seriously injured in the accident.

Because the incident occurred on private property, no criminal charges will be filed and no motor vehicle citations will be issued.
